This page provides definitions to terms used across the VU OS platform, and definitions for each term.

Templates

Templates are configuration for a given product. Templates house the model/product photography, options selectable for the product, business logic, and much more. What is configured within a template, is what drives the customizer experience on the front-end.

Templates can be used for a single product, or single template can house multiple products.

Tabs

Tabs are sections within a template that group together a set of elements. They are most commonly used to segment a series of selections for the consumer to help drive them down the customization journey. Configured tabs appear as a tab on the front-end display of the customizer.

Elements

Elements are defined classes of functionality that power selections/interaction with presented options in the customizer. For example, a user selecting from a list of colors is powered by the List Element. A user entering text for personalization is powered by the Input Element.

Starting Points

Starting Points are derived from templates, previewing a product with a set of personalization/customization pre-applied to drive consumers into the customizer. Its primary purpose is to help showcase the offering that is available. Once entering the customizer via a Starting Point, users have the ability to further customizer the product to their liking within the options configured for the template.

Travelers

Travelers are system generated document that details order information, recipe information, supplies perspectives, and links ready to use art-work all in one central place. Operators/decorators are able to use travelers to help streamline production of orders generated via the customizer.

Zones

Zones refer to areas within the product where customization can be applied. Each zone should be identified by its dimensions, and defined based on specific criteria related to user interactions that impact it. For example if a product allows for an image upload, the zone must define a maximum height and width, how the image should be initially applied to the zone, and how the image is able to be further modified within the zone.

Color Palettes are a group of colors Brands can create and collectively apply to products.

Photography vs 3D Modelling

Photography refers to images, while 3D modeling refers to a 360-degree view of the product, along with live changes being applied to the initial product, giving clients a more realistic feeling of how the product looks.

Product Display Page (PDP)

PDP most commonly is where in VU Customizer sits on, however it can be embedded on any page and not limited to PDP. It can be used on Product Listing Pages (PLP), Category Listing Pages (CLP), and much more.

Profanity Filter

The Profanity Filter enables you to allow or disallow certain terms from being used within the VU Customizer. The applicable Site administrator will have permission to edit or update the filters.

Recipe ID

A unique eight-character token generated by VU Custom that captures all of the user selections and customization/personalization within the customizer.

3D Terminologies

  • Camera: The viewer's perspective within the 3D space.

  • Geometry: The shape of a 3D object.

  • Light: Elements that add depth, shadows, and realism to the scene.

  • Material: The properties that define the surface look of an object, including color, texture, and reflectivity.

  • Mesh: A visible 3D object, which is a combination of both geometry and material.

  • Renderer: The engine that calculates the lighting, materials, and geometry to convert 3D data into the final 2D pixels you see on screen.

  • Scene: The overarching 3D world container that holds the cameras, lights, and meshes.

  • Texture: A 2D image applied to a 3D surface to add visual detail (like wood grain, bumps, or reflections) without adding complex geometry.
