Starting Points
A Starting Point is a preset design configuration for a product that is created within a template. The main purpose is to expedite the design process for your customers, so they don't have to start customizing from scratch every time. Think of it as a pre-designed version of a product that acts as a "directive visual," encouraging the customer to begin the customization experience.
For example, to make it clear that a phone case is personalizable, a brand might create a Starting Point that shows the case with a name already written on it. When a customer sees this, they immediately understand that the product can be customized.

Common use cases for Starting Points include:
Virtual Merchandising
On-Demand Finished Goods
Seasonal Collections
Showcasing licensed items
Artist Collaborations
SKU Amplification
A practical example would be setting up a product's available colors as different Starting Points. Each color's Starting Point can be linked to its specific SKU on your e-commerce site. When a customer views a red shirt on a PDP and opens the customizer, the "red shirt" Starting Point is pre-selected, creating a more fluid experience
How to Configure a Starting Point
Starting Points are configured within the detailed template editor. Here is a step-by-step guide to create one:
Access the Template Editor
First, you need to either create a new template or edit an existing one.
From the Dashboard, navigate to Customizer > Templates.
Click Add New to create a new template, or find an existing template and click EDIT to open the detailed template editor.
Navigate to the Starting Points Tab
Inside the template editor, you will see a series of tabs for configuring the template.
Locate and click on the Starting Point tab. This is the dedicated area for managing all Starting Points for this specific template.
Name and Launch the Preview
In the Name field, enter a descriptive name for your Starting Point (e.g., "Red Colour Variant" or "Holiday Edition").
Click Save. This action will save the name and launch a preview of the customizer.
Configure the Design in the Preview
You will now see a live preview of the customizer. Use this preview to create the preset design you want to save.
Interact with the customizer just as a customer would. Select the specific options—such as colors, materials, text, or logos—that you want to be part of this Starting Point.
For example, if you are creating the "Red Color Variant," you would select the red color for the product.
Save the Starting Point
Once you have configured the design exactly as you want it, click the Save button.
Your Starting Point is now successfully saved and associated with the template. You can create multiple Starting Points within a single template by repeating this process.
